NG' s approach to life

If I were to summarize NG’s project in a few words, I would have to say that she strives for freedom. While undoubtedly much more than just an art project, it is nonetheless a magnificent artistic undertaking. It is really the only worthwhile project. As such, it is a life project entailing major life decisions.(-----)

Three fundamental breaches. Freeing yourself from the symbolic logic of capital (not having a name), freeing yourself from comfort and routines (not having a home) and freeing yourself from the servitude of the wage labourer (not having a job). So many radical gestures entailing difficult decisions. Not having a family, for example. But above all, these acts require the invention of a new personal economy. NG isn’t struggling for a universal revolution, but rather embraces an unmitigated relationship with the immediate, without claiming to show the way or set an example. To live free, NG must live on the edge. She explores boundaries and limits: of her abilities (mountain climbing), of her endurance (fasting), of shared living (residences). To live freely, she must concoct and develop survival strategies. “Your house is my home”, “Limits of Paradise”: strategies rather than works of art. Documenting experience. (---)

NG is inventing a radically new form of nomadism.In an era of digital
globalization, she embodies a different approach to life. Hers is the inverse of tourism, vacations and hustling: It is a poetic approach to the world.

MY PROJECT IN CHINA

DISCOURS OF THE XXI CENTURY - -
To explore , to see , to listen , to discover an unknown world- The country of the 21eme century-
Everything i see , i listen , the structures, are a part of this 21eme century which is our present . (futurism, archaïsm, super-capitalism, super-control all mixed)

My project is not to understand , to interpret , but to listen, to contemplate , to get some shapes . My project is also to tell, to make a speech , to perform my belonging to the 21eme century, to write a speech as an answer to this visuals and sounds data that i get everyday without try to order.

To escape the mental structures of the 20 century, I'm writing this speech in a new language, a language unknown to me, chinese .

This project comes after my first sounds pieces ('discours discours 1, 2, 3' (99) "give me a break" (2000), first try to be a 'spokesman' to answer the world's discourse, the world's speech.

I continue my 'nomadic performance', my travell, to discover an unknown world, tryng to respect my slow rythm : exploration, meetings, learning

NG procède par immersion dans des lieux et espaces qui sont tous appréhendés comme des terrains d’aventure. Tout son travail résulte de cette immersion en terre inconnue, espaces qu’elle investit, cherche à comprendre et à saisir corporellement. Elle s’imprègne des lieux, les apprivoise, cherche à les saisir dans leurs pures altérités et comme par réciprocité ces lieux finissent par l’imprégner et modifier sa perception, sa façon d’appréhender l’espace. Le travail de NG semble faire
écho à Michel Leiris qui dans « La règle du jeu » s’interrogeait sur le fait de savoir si un changement de costume ou d’habit pouvait modifier le cours de notre existence. Pareillement, NG s’interroge sur l’incidence de l’environnement et de l’habitat sur notre manière d’appréhender le monde et plus largement sur notre manière d’être au monde....
